Role Overview

As Senior Director, Procurement, you will define and scale procurement for a fast-growing remote organization. The position focuses on building a practical, business-aligned procurement strategy that improves efficiency, strengthens controls, reduces risk, and supports responsible growth. You will partner across the company to make procurement a dependable and value-adding function that balances speed, discipline, and sound judgment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee hyperscaler and strategic supplier relationships with a broad view of commercial terms, go-to-market incentives, product co-development possibilities, and partner program value.
  • Drive the procurement function with a strong sense of ownership and urgency while maintaining quality and business impact for internal teams.
  • Design, communicate, and implement a procurement strategy aligned to company goals, operational efficiency, risk control, and scalable decision-making.
  • Own procurement policies, operating practices, and systems that help the business grow while improving consistency and lowering risk.
  • Strengthen procurement workflows, tools, and purchasing controls to improve compliance, increase adoption of policies, and raise efficiency across teams.
  • Work with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and advisors to enhance procurement, negotiation, audit, and accounting processes.
  • Build trusted relationships across functions to understand business needs, improve the employee experience, and ensure procurement delivers meaningful value.
  • Lead vendor negotiation strategy and support negotiations to secure better pricing, favorable terms, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Shape an AI-first procurement model by identifying opportunities for automation, AI-enabled tooling, and modern workflows that reduce manual work and shorten cycle times.
  • Set team KPIs, diagnose the causes of performance issues, and lead improvement plans that raise procurement effectiveness and team output.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the procurement team to improve accountability, performance, and professional growth in line with GitLab values.

Requirements

  • Extensive procurement experience in a technology company, including direct leadership of procurement teams.
  • Proven ability to build procurement strategies, operating models, and control frameworks that support scale and consistency.
  • Strong practical judgment informed by industry knowledge and business tradeoff awareness.
  • Ability to evaluate diverse stakeholder needs and adapt to evolving policies, practices, trends, and business requirements.
  • Solid operational expertise, including improving procure-to-pay processes for speed, reliability, and quality.
  • Experience creating vendor negotiation approaches and managing supplier relationships with an emphasis on business value.
  • Leadership style focused on outcomes, goal setting, team performance improvement, and employee development.
  • Ability to design solutions that meet current needs while creating a foundation for future scale in an asynchronous, cross-functional environment.

Team Overview

The Procurement team helps GitLab make thoughtful buying decisions that support business goals and responsible growth. The team works across the company to improve supplier management, strengthen controls, reduce risk, and keep work moving efficiently. Clear processes, strong documentation, and precise communication are especially important in GitLab’s remote environment.
