Senior Director of Operations

Role overview

The Senior Director of Operations is a remote, full-time leadership position focused on keeping daily operations running smoothly and ensuring the effective delivery of landscape architecture and design services. The role is responsible for guiding cross-functional teams, shaping and executing operational plans, and improving workflows so projects are planned well, delivered efficiently, and aligned with client expectations.

Key responsibilities

This role oversees operational performance across the business, including budget management, resource planning, and tracking results against key metrics. It requires close coordination with senior leadership to set priorities, simplify processes, and uphold strong standards for quality and safety. The position also supports proposal development and project scoping, strengthens client relationships, and helps ensure projects are completed on time and to a high standard.

Qualifications and experience

• Solid background in operations leadership, with hands-on experience in process improvement, project supervision, and resource allocation.
• Strong ability to interpret data, spot operational gaps, and use analysis to guide better decisions.
• Demonstrated people leadership skills, including coaching, performance management, and collaboration across teams.
• Working knowledge of budgeting, financial planning, and cost management to support efficient and sustainable operations.
• Strong client-facing ability with a focus on service quality, relationship building, and expectation management.
• Prior leadership experience in operations, ideally within professional services, design, construction, or similar industries.
• Clear communication and interpersonal skills suited to managing distributed teams and working across functions.
• A bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or a related discipline is required; a master’s or other advanced qualification is a plus.
• Capability to work independently in a remote setting, manage competing priorities, and deliver within deadlines.
• Exposure to project management software and operational reporting tools is preferred; experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar improvement methods is an advantage.
