Senior Director of Human Resources

About the Role

The Senior Director of Human Resources is a senior leadership position focused on shaping and delivering people strategies that support business goals. In this role, you will partner closely with executive leadership to strengthen a high-performance culture, improve organizational effectiveness, and build scalable HR programs across the company.

Strategic HR Leadership

• Collaborate with the C-suite and Board to define the long-range talent and people strategy that supports growth.
• Drive workforce planning, organizational structuring, and change management efforts.
• Act as a guardian of company culture by weaving core values into HR programs and daily practices.

Talent Acquisition & Retention

• Lead the end-to-end hiring strategy to bring in strong talent across all levels, including executive roles.
• Improve employer branding, candidate experience, and onboarding processes on an ongoing basis.
• Create and implement retention initiatives such as career development pathways, succession planning, and internal mobility programs.

Total Rewards & HR Operations

• Oversee compensation strategy, pay equity reviews, benefits administration, and annual compensation cycles.
• Ensure HR platforms such as HRIS, ATS, and LMS are effectively configured and used to support data-backed decisions.
• Keep the organization aligned with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

Employee Experience & Development

• Lead learning and development initiatives, manager training, and leadership growth programs.
• Own the employee engagement approach, including pulse surveys, follow-up actions, and manager accountability.

Employee Relations & Risk Management

• Guide managers and leaders through complex employee relations issues, performance matters, and workplace investigations.
• Develop HR policies and support consistent, fair application across the organization.
• Work with Legal on employment-related matters, disputes, and risk reduction.

Work Arrangement

This is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Southfield, Michigan. The selected candidate is expected to be in the office five days per week. This position is not available as hybrid or remote.

Qualifications

Applicants should bring at least 10 years of progressive HR experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a senior leadership capacity. Experience leading HR in a complex, fast-growing organization with 500+ employees is required. Strong background across talent acquisition, total rewards, employee relations, and learning & development is important. Candidates should also have experience driving organizational change and cultural transformation, along with excellent executive-level communication and interpersonal skills. The role requires comfort with HR data and metrics to influence strategy. A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline is required.

Preferred Background

Professional certifications such as SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or an equivalent credential are preferred. Experience in the car wash sector, multi-unit retail, or another similarly fast-moving environment is also valued. Familiarity with UKG or a comparable enterprise HR platform is a plus.
