Senior Data Scientist, Underwriting

Join Manulife's AI team as a Senior Data Scientist to innovate in Generative AI solutions specifically tailored for underwriting. This role emphasizes building and deploying AI systems using OpenAI services to enhance global underwriting processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with data engineers and IT experts to grasp source datasets and optimize large volumes of data for Generative AI development leveraging OpenAI services.
• Design and apply sophisticated machine learning models tackling complex business challenges, focusing on employing OpenAI tools in generative AI.
• Partner with stakeholders to collect requirements, construct data models, and deliver customized AI solutions.
• Establish and promote standardized methodologies, tools, and workflows as best practices for the data science team.
• Champion the integration of AI and data-driven innovations by engaging and influencing key organizational stakeholders.
• Continuously innovate by creatively sourcing and utilizing both structured and unstructured data sets, maintaining awareness of AI/ML industry developments with an emphasis on OpenAI implementations.

Required Qualifications

• Advanced academic degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or related quantitative disciplines.
• At least five years of professional experience applying data science to solve significant business issues, including recent direct involvement with developing generative AI applications.
• Expertise in statistical methods, machine learning techniques, and data manipulation oriented toward understanding customer insights and scaling solutions globally.
• Proficient programming abilities in Python, R, or SQL, complemented by experience in prompt engineering and libraries such as LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, and Llamaindex.
• Experience with scalable big data technologies including Azure, Databricks, and Spark, particularly for creating and expanding generative AI applications utilizing OpenAI services.
• Strong communication skills capable of conveying sophisticated data science concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences within the scope of Generative AI deployment across Asia.
• Documented success in implementing AI-driven solutions into operational environments generating measurable business impact related to generative AI.
