Senior Counsel - Real Estate

Position Overview

We seek a seasoned Corporate Counsel with at least five years of proven experience in commercial real estate leasing and development. The ideal candidate must be proficient in handling national leasing and subleasing agreements across industrial, commercial, and retail sectors, alongside expertise in real estate development, land use, acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and comprehensive portfolio management.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal counsel on all commercial real estate matters including intricate agreements, land acquisitions, compliance, and contracts supporting multiple internal teams such as Real Estate, Design, Construction, Finance, Policy, EH&S, Engineering, and Supercharger.
• Negotiate and finalize a high volume of complex leases, subleases, licenses, and purchase and sale agreements for a range of property types under tight timelines.
• Draft and review various ancillary real estate documents including amendments, assignments, terminations, easements, NDAs, brokerage agreements, SNDA, and estoppels.
• Conduct thorough due diligence reviews like organizational documents, environmental assessments, title commitments, surveys, and easements ensuring smooth closings.
• Identify and assess complex legal and business challenges to manage Tesla's real estate legal and operational risks effectively while aligning with business objectives.
• Evaluate leasing interpretation issues, manage risk assessments, and make informed judgements regarding new and existing locations.
• Collaborate closely with Real Estate and Lease Administration teams to resolve post-execution lease issues and landlord/tenant relations.

Candidate Profile

• Active membership in good standing with the California or Texas Bar, or eligibility to register as in-house counsel.
• At least seven years of experience with top-tier law firms or in-house handling sophisticated commercial real estate transactions, acquisitions, and leases.
• Adaptable and organized, thriving in dynamic, fast-paced tech environments.
• Strong independent work ethic with quick learning abilities, sound judgment, and excellent drafting and analytical capabilities.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills combined with robust organizational and multitasking abilities under pressure.
• Adept in building strong collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders.

Compensation

The expected annual salary range is $212,000 to $342,000, supplemented with cash and stock awards and a full spectrum of benefits. Actual pay may vary according to individual factors such as location, skills, and experience. Details of benefit participation will be provided upon offer.
