Senior Consultant - IT Controls Assurance

About the Role

Deloitte’s Audit, Assurance and Reporting Advisory group in Christchurch is seeking a Senior Consultant for its IT Controls Assurance practice. The role suits someone with a background in external audit, internal audit, or risk management within a professional services environment, and hands-on exposure to general IT controls, automated controls, and/or IT risk management. A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience is required.

About the Team

The IT Controls Assurance team partners with financial auditors to understand clients’ operations, strategies, processes, technology environments, and associated risks. The team monitors new technologies, helps shape audit approaches to address financial risk linked to those technologies, and supports clients in strengthening the maturity of their IT control governance across a wide variety of industries.

Working in a closely connected audit setting, the team plans audits alongside financial auditors, leads fieldwork, evaluates whether controls are designed appropriately, and tests how effective internal controls are across IT processes and systems to support the integrity of financial statements.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with project teams, internal specialists, and leaders across the business, with opportunities to work with colleagues throughout the country and, at times, overseas.
• Take ownership of fieldwork and deliver IT audit engagements across different sectors and client types, while helping engagement managers prepare reports for management and senior leadership.
• Support the learning and development of junior team members through coaching and guidance.
• Dig into how businesses operate, how their IT functions run, what matters most to them, and where IT-related risks may exist.
• Contribute ideas for improving processes and developing practical solutions, with room to challenge and shape the way problems are solved.

What You’ll Bring

You should bring strong IT Controls Assurance experience and the ability to make a meaningful contribution from day one.

• At least 4 years of IT audit experience, including work with general IT controls, automated controls, and service auditor reporting, ideally gained in a Big 4 or mid-tier professional services firm.
• A relevant professional qualification such as CISA or CA.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure IT audit findings are accurate and complete.
• Well-developed problem-solving ability to identify control weaknesses and risks, then design and implement improvements that strengthen security and financial processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings, recommendations, and risk assessments clearly and confidently.
• Experience coaching or mentoring junior colleagues.
• Familiarity with relevant systems and coding environments such as SAP, Oracle, Workday, SQL, or Java.
