Role Summary
The company is seeking Senior Civil Engineers (Geotechnical) to join their Brisbane, Queensland based multidisciplinary team. The candidate will lead and be actively involved in the design, investigation, and construction phases of large mining projects. These include tailings residue and waste storage facilities, alongside water management infrastructure such as spillways, diversion channels, and pipelines. The position demands technical leadership, mentoring of junior engineers, and a commitment to high-quality project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct geotechnical field investigations and construction monitoring related to mine waste management systems, including tailings dams and rock dumps.
- Plan and supervise fieldwork programs encompassing drilling, testing, sampling, mapping, and earthworks monitoring while ensuring adherence to quality and safety protocols.
- Perform and evaluate desktop assessments by interpreting geological and geotechnical data and providing engineering recommendations.
- Utilize advanced geotechnical software tools such as Slope/W, Seep/W, PLAXIS, and Muk3D for analysis and modeling to support project delivery.
- Draft and review engineering documents including reports, technical drawings, specifications, and presentations.
- Offer technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to junior staff and graduates.
- Participate in project management activities, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, coordination, and client communication.
- Maintain compliance with KCB's Quality Management System and Health & Safety standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams across Australia and internationally as required.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
- Minimum of eight years' experience in tailings, geotechnical, mining, or related engineering roles.
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, and geotechnical design principles.
- Proven experience in designing and managing tailings storage facilities, dams, embankments, slope stability and seepage analysis, earthworks supervision, and site investigation programs.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ANCOLD, ICOLD, GISTM, and CDA.
- Competency in geotechnical analysis software including PLAXIS, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, or similar tools.
- Excellent technical report writing and document review capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and operate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in client engagement and managing project deliverables is highly advantageous.
- Chartered status (CPEng/RPEQ) or progress toward chartership will be considered an asset.
