Role overview
Central Otago District Council is seeking a Senior Building Control Officer to join the team in Alexandra, Otago on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Team Leader Building Control, this position offers technical leadership across building consent processing, site inspections, and Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) assessments.
What you will do
- Lead and advise on building consent processing, inspection activity, and CCC work.
- Review more complex consent applications and help ensure decisions are made consistently and in line with regulations.
- Carry out building inspections and check that work matches approved consent documents.
- Evaluate CCC applications and verify that the supporting records justify the regulatory outcome.
- Contribute to the Council’s Building Consent Authority accreditation requirements and quality assurance framework.
What we are looking for
- Solid working knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and the New Zealand Building Code.
- Practical experience in consent processing, inspections, and CCC assessments.
- Understanding of acceptable solutions, verification methods, and alternative solutions.
- Capability to coach and assist Building Control Officers.
- A qualification that satisfies Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
