Job description

Overview

Central Otago District Council is seeking a fixed-term People and Culture Advisor based in Alexandra, Otago. This role runs through to July 2027 and sits within a values-driven organisation focused on making a positive difference for the community and helping shape the future of the region.

Role Summary

In this position, you will support a broad mix of People and Culture and Health and Safety activities. The role combines advisory work, project support, learning and development, systems coordination, recruitment, and reporting.

Key Focus Areas

  • Help bring the learning and development framework to life by working with leaders, creating engaging learning resources and online modules, and supporting the development of career pathways.
  • Serve as a go-to person for the HR information system (ELMO), including helping with organisation-wide support during its upgrade.
  • Provide adaptable support to the team by stepping in across People and Culture and Health and Safety duties when colleagues are on leave.
  • Give practical and reliable People and Culture guidance to leaders and staff across the organisation.
  • Work alongside the Acting General Manager – People and Culture on priority projects, policy work, and related initiatives.
  • Assist the Health and Safety Advisor with delivery of the Health and Safety strategy and work programme.
  • Take part in recruitment activity, including interviews and selection of new team members.
  • Prepare and help compile monthly People and Culture reports for the Executive Leadership Team.
