Job description
Overview
The Central Otago District Council is seeking a Senior Building Control Officer to join their Alexandra-based team. Reporting directly to the Team Leader Building Control, this role offers an opportunity to provide expert technical leadership in managing building consent processing, conducting building inspections, and evaluating Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) applications. The position is permanent and full-time, focused on upholding regulatory standards to support community safety and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide and lead technical aspects across building consent processing, inspection activities, and CCC assessments.
- Evaluate complex building consent applications to ensure consistent regulatory decision-making.
- Perform detailed building inspections to verify compliance with consent documentation.
- Review Code Compliance Certificate applications to confirm documentation adequacy for regulatory approval.
- Contribute to maintaining the Council’s Building Consent Authority accreditation and support the Quality Assurance System.
Required Skills and Experience
- In-depth understanding of the Building Act 2004 and the New Zealand Building Code.
- Previous experience handling building consent processing, performing inspections, and managing CCC functions.
- Comprehension of acceptable solutions, verification methods, and alternative solutions within building regulations.
- Mentorship capabilities to support and guide fellow Building Control Officers.
- Possession of a qualification compliant with Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
