Job description
Overview
We are working with a prominent global alternative investment platform to recruit a German-speaking Senior Associate for its private equity team in Hamburg. This position offers the chance to join a highly active middle-market investor and contribute to complex buyout transactions across German-speaking markets.
The Firm
- The firm is a major alternative asset manager with roughly $75 billion in capital under management, a long-standing middle-market focus, and more than 30 years of investing experience.
- Its investment team comprises over 500 professionals working from 19 offices across North America, Europe, and Latin America.
- It is among the most active investors in its segment, with investments in more than 400 businesses since launch and a portfolio whose combined sales exceed $50 billion.
- Its European business is well established, with a team of more than 150 investment professionals and a 19-year track record in the region, including a recently closed, oversubscribed €1.6 billion European lower-middle-market fund.
- The investment approach is hands-on and operationally oriented, with a focus on management buyouts, carve-outs, recapitalisations, growth investments, and other complex or under-managed situations.
Role Summary
In this Senior Associate position on the DACH middle-market team, you will sit close to origination and execution across the German-speaking region, partnering directly with senior investors on live opportunities and transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and review financial models, including LBO analyses and valuation work, for prospective investments.
- Run and coordinate diligence workstreams with external advisors and company leadership.
- Develop materials for investment committee discussions and help drive transactions through to completion.
- Evaluate carve-outs, buy-and-build strategies, and other nuanced deal structures.
- Collaborate with portfolio company management teams on post-close value creation and operational improvement plans.
Candidate Profile
- Fluency in both German and English is required, with German being essential.
- A strong background from a top-tier strategy consultancy, ideally MBB, or from a Tier 1 investment bank or private equity firm.
- About 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in private equity, investment banking, or strategy consulting.
- Strong analytical ability, advanced financial modelling skills, commercial judgement, and meticulous attention to detail.
- An ownership mindset, entrepreneurial drive, and the ability to stay effective in complex, demanding deal environments.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- Gain direct exposure to complex, high-impact middle-market transactions from the outset.
- Join a lean, high-performing DACH team supported by the scale and reach of a global platform.
- Take on meaningful responsibility and benefit from accelerated progression within one of the most active investors in the mid-cap market.
