Your Role in the Company
As Wealthsimple expands its integrated financial platform across brokerage, banking, crypto, and wealth management, the need for high-caliber financial analysis is paramount. This Senior Analyst position in Strategic Finance & FP&A is tailored for an individual with an investment banking or advisory background, capable of delivering rigorous institutional-quality modeling, valuation, and analysis within the FP&A team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive three-statement financial models (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) projecting five years forward.
- Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses focusing on essential business drivers such as client expansion, asset under management composition, pricing metrics, and unit economics per product segment.
- Translate strategic business initiatives into quantifiable financial outcomes with transparent assumptions and audit functionality.
- Maintain current comparative company databases involving public fintech, brokerage, neobank, and wealth management entities.
- Analyze corporate filings including 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and earnings call transcripts to extract operational metrics, segment economics, and reporting nuances.
- Generate valuation benchmarks to guide internal capital allocation and strategic decisions.
- Construct bottom-up and top-down Total Addressable Market (TAM) models utilizing primary regulatory, census, and industry data.
- Evaluate market penetration, wallet share, and opportunities for growth supporting strategic planning and capital investment cases.
- Assist in crafting institutional-grade reporting materials, including KPI packages, narratives, and data exhibits.
- Define and rigorously test key performance indicators ensuring consistency and clarity over time.
- Support board materials and executive presentations as a trusted analytical resource.
- Perform ad hoc strategic analyses including capital allocation review, unit economics evaluation across multiple metrics, and competitive tests such as pricing and product economic analysis.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 to 4 years experience in investment banking, equity research, transaction advisory, or strategic finance roles demanding high analytical intensity.
- Proven ability to independently develop integrated three-statement financial models; familiarity with DCF, LBO, and comparable company analyses.
- Expertise interpreting and contextualizing public company financial statements such as 10-Ks, 10-Qs, proxies, and S-1 filings.
- Strong financial acumen focusing on capital allocation, return expectations, and economic trade-offs beyond mere revenue growth.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets; familiarity with SQL or business intelligence tools is a plus but not required.
- Highly self-motivated and capable of tackling ambiguous or complex problems with structured and well-defended solutions.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, able to translate complex financial analysis into understandable narratives for non-executive stakeholders.
- A genuine passion for fintech, capital markets, or financial services with an eagerness to understand the broader business context beyond modeling.
Differentiators
- Direct experience covering fintech, financial services, or payment sectors in investment banking or equity research capacities.
- Knowledge of Canadian financial services regulations and competitive market dynamics.
- Background in developing financial reporting infrastructures or producing stakeholder communications for institutional audiences.
- Exposure to cohort-based unit economics or lifetime value/cost acquisition frameworks in rapidly growing environments.
Employee Benefits
- Comprehensive health benefits and life insurance of top-tier quality.
- Long-term group savings plans with employer contribution through the company's business platform.
- Generous leave policy including 20 vacation days, 4 wellness days, and unlimited sick and mental health days annually.
