Role overview

This Wellington-based permanent full-time opportunity sits within the Office of the Deputy Director-General, Corporate Services. The role calls for sound judgement, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to keep an eye on both immediate priorities and the larger organisational picture. Working in a busy and influential environment, you will help shape decision-making across the Corporate group and the wider Ministry by connecting people, processes, and priorities.

The salary midpoint is $108,452, with the final offer depending on relevant experience.

What you will do

  • Offer trusted strategic and operational guidance to the Manager, Deputy Director-General, and other senior leaders.
  • Plan, coordinate, and advance priority workstreams while keeping sequencing, alignment, and accountability clear.
  • Support and manage corporate governance activities, including machinery-of-government workflows, reporting, and assurance work.
  • Deliver and coordinate complex projects, drawing on strong planning, analysis, and advisory capability.
  • Strengthen relationships and contribute to ongoing improvement across Corporate Services and the broader Ministry.

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated experience supporting senior leaders in demanding, fast-moving, or executive-level settings.
  • Well-developed judgement and an eye for detail, with the ability to spot risk and ensure quality outputs.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with confidence balancing several priorities at once while staying accurate and discreet.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex matters to different audiences in a clear way.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across varied internal and external groups.
