Job description
Role Overview
This fixed-term position, extending through to 30 June 2027, is focused on supporting the transformation and future of Water Services in Hawke's Bay. The Senior Advisor will guide communication strategies, community interaction, education, and initiatives promoting sustainable water usage throughout this period of substantial change.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage communications and engagement efforts across various Water Services projects and programs.
- Design and implement campaigns that foster water conservation and encourage positive behavior shifts.
- Organize community education programs, workshops, and events to enhance public understanding of water services.
- Provide internal communication support for leaders to facilitate smooth organizational changes with clear, timely messaging.
- Develop strong partnerships with internal teams, community organizations, Mana Whenua, schools, and regional collaborators.
- Create compelling communication materials suitable for digital, print, and in-person platforms.
- Leverage feedback and analytical insights to continuously refine communication and engagement effectiveness.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a seasoned communications or engagement expert adept at connecting audiences with vital information. They possess the skill to distill complex topics into accessible, engaging messages and cultivate trusted relationships within communities and teams.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Extensive experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, public relations, or community involvement.
- Superior skills in writing, speaking, and presenting information clearly and persuasively.
- Proven capability in crafting integrated communication and engagement strategies.
- Expertise in converting technical or intricate concepts into understandable, audience-centered messaging.
- Excellent relationship management and project coordination abilities.
- A proactive mindset, sound judgement, and aptitude for juggling multiple priorities within dynamic settings.
Experience with local government projects, infrastructure, water services, or environmental programs will be advantageous but is not mandatory.

Additional Information
This is a full-time, onsite role based in Napier, working 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday. The remuneration package ranges from $107,375 to $120,008 annually (including KiwiSaver), commensurate with the candidate’s expertise and experience.
