Role Overview

This leadership role at Napier City Council involves overseeing major operational services such as waste management, transportation, and overall city operations, shaping the everyday experiences of the Napier community. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage one of the largest operational portfolios within the Council ensuring efficient delivery of waste, transport, and city operations services that impact residents daily.
  • Drive ongoing transformation initiatives by embedding innovative practices, challenging existing methods, and promoting continual improvement across all teams.
  • Lead and motivate a leadership team fostering a culture of trust, accountability, collaboration, and ongoing development.
  • Create a positive, engaged workplace where staff feel empowered to take initiative, adapt to change, and provide excellent service.
  • Enhance commercial and financial management balancing community expectations, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
  • Implement robust performance management systems for clear visibility into service delivery, risks, and opportunities to support informed decision-making.
  • Contribute as a senior leader influencing the Council’s strategic direction while grounding plans in operational realities.

Candidate Profile

Employment Details and Benefits

This permanent full-time position requires a 40-hour workweek Monday to Friday based in Napier CBD.

The salary range is NZD 171288 to 191439 annually, inclusive of KiwiSaver contributions, with the final offer reflecting experience and qualifications.
