Job description

Role overview

This is a specialized research role focused on understanding, testing, and challenging advanced bot detection and anti-automation defenses used at web scale. The work involves deep analysis of protection mechanisms, protocol behavior, and collection infrastructure so that reliable access to public web data can be maintained and improved.

You will investigate how modern anti-bot systems operate, study the signatures and fingerprinting methods they rely on, and help build resilient technical approaches that support large-scale HTTP-based data collection. The position calls for strong offensive-security thinking, protocol expertise, and systems-level engineering skills, along with the freedom to shape research direction in a fast-changing security landscape.

Core accountabilities

  • Investigate anti-bot platforms, web protection layers, and controls that limit large-scale data acquisition.
  • Design and enhance HTTP client infrastructure to improve reliability and throughput for web data collection.
  • Analyze adversarial defenses in depth, including fingerprinting approaches and bot-mitigation techniques, to uncover weaknesses and potential bypass paths.
  • Track new web standards, protocols, and security technologies that may affect collection performance.
  • Build and refine methods that model realistic attacker behavior to assess how well anti-bot systems withstand adversarial pressure.
  • Help evolve large-scale data collection platforms through research-led engineering changes.
  • Work with engineering and research stakeholders to turn findings into deployable solutions.

Experience and technical requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in R&D, security research, software engineering, or testing within demanding technical environments.
  • Solid knowledge of HTTP and TLS, including how these protocols function and are manipulated in real-world systems.
  • Practical exposure to at least two of the following: JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or C++; penetration testing or offensive security; web or mobile security research; reverse engineering such as JS deobfuscation or binary analysis; malware analysis; or anti-bot/WAF/DDoS system development.
  • Hands-on ability to apply reverse-engineering methods and analyze adversarial systems.
  • Awareness of anti-bot tooling, web security platforms, or large-scale protection systems is a strong plus.
  • Strong analytical ability to simplify complex mechanisms and pinpoint weaknesses.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Prior experience in web security or anti-bot-centered environments is highly desirable.

Benefits and work environment

  • Compensation is competitive and aligned with background, expertise, and experience.
  • The role is fully remote and supports collaboration with a global team.
  • You will work on advanced adversarial security problems and systems operating at large scale.
  • There is a high degree of autonomy over research priorities and technical decisions.
  • The position offers exposure to complex, real-world security challenges with substantial operational scale.
  • You will join a collaborative team with strong technical depth across research and engineering.
  • Your work will directly influence the direction of large-scale data collection systems.
