Scientific Research Associate (Doctoral Candidate) in Legal Informatics

Position Overview

The Philipps University of Marburg, founded in 1527 with approximately 22,000 students, invites applications for a part-time (50%) Scientific Research Associate (Doctoral Candidate) position at the Faculty of Law, Dean's Office. This position commences on October 15th, 2026, is fixed-term for three years, and is remunerated according to the E 13 salary group of the Hesse state tariff agreement.

Role and Responsibilities

• Provide scientific services in research and teaching.
• Assist the faculty in the digitalization of teaching and learning offerings.
• Support the development of a faculty-wide AI strategy.
• Contribute to legal informatics, particularly in maintaining and advancing IT infrastructure in the Faculty of Law.
• Participate in software maintenance, software development, and IT security aligned with the university's computing center (HRZ) PC management.
• Help implement technical and organizational aspects of digital teaching formats.
• Collaborate in evolving the faculty's digital workflows.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Completed First State Examination in Law with at least the grade "vollbefriedigend" (fully satisfactory).
• Good to very good skills in data processing.
• Interest in legal informatics, legal technology, and digital education.
• Willingness to learn university IT systems and digital teaching infrastructure.
• Independent, structured, and reliable working approach, with strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Motivation to contribute scientific research on legal assessments regarding AI use at universities.
• Experience in digitalizing education, IT support, or software maintenance/development is advantageous.
• Knowledge in at least one of the following: learning platforms, web technologies, IT security, Windows administration, software distribution, or programming is desirable.

Research Opportunity

This role offers the chance for independent scientific work that supports the candidate's own academic qualification. The contract complies with section 2 paragraph 1 of the German Act on Fixed-term Contracts in Research.
