Position Overview

The Neue Nationalgalerie, representing 20th-century art at the State Museums of Berlin, invites applications for two positions as Scientific Museum Assistants in Training. This opportunity is designed for recent graduates aiming to build substantial practice in the museum field and prepare for a future career in cultural institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing both content-related and organizational support to the curatorial team and museum management during the planning and execution of exhibitions and performance events.
  • Assisting in the maintenance, scholarly documentation, and research of the collection.
  • Coordinating and managing events and educational programming.
  • Contributing to the preparation of academic publications and press materials.

Candidate Profile

  • Completed university degree at Master, Magister, Diplom, or equivalent level in Art History or related disciplines.
  • Specialized knowledge of 20th-century art and/or contemporary art.
  • Initial practical experience in museum operations or cultural management, such as internships.
  • Strong proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and/or evidence of academic research activities.
  • Good understanding of performance art, interest in contemporary art production, current critical debates in museums, and progressive educational formats.
  • Familiarity with database and image editing software.
  • Responsible handling of artworks.
  • High motivation, strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to work independently and methodically, and teamwork capability.

Employment Terms

  • Contract duration: fixed term, 24 months.
  • Working hours: 39 hours per week, part-time possible.
  • Salary: €2,450.56 gross monthly in the first year; €2,639.66 gross monthly in the second year.
  • Work location: Potsdamer Str. 50, 10785 Berlin.
  • Flexibility: Options for flexible working hours to support work-life balance.
  • Additional benefits: Employer-subsidized job ticket.
  • Starting date: as soon as possible or from November 1, 2026.
