ACG Parnell College, part of Inspired Education, is seeking a full-time, permanent School Science Technician to support its science department in Auckland. What the role involves
- Arrange the purchase of chemicals, laboratory equipment, and science consumables as needed.
- Keep current with substances that are restricted or banned in school settings and advise science staff on safe and appropriate use.
- Set up apparatus, materials, and resources for experiments and practical lessons.
- Maintain organised, accurate records of chemicals, stock, and laboratory assets.
- Manage the secure storage, correct handling, and proper disposal of chemicals and equipment in line with health, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Check that lab safety notices are up to date, clearly visible, and correctly displayed.
- Oversee laboratory safety systems, equipment, and emergency procedures to ensure they remain effective.
- Keep the laboratory and preparation area tidy, orderly, and professionally presented.
- Carry out routine upkeep, calibration, and small repairs on lab equipment.
- Complete other tasks reasonably assigned by the Principal or a delegated supervisor.
What the school is looking for
- Solid working knowledge of laboratory processes, apparatus, and practical experiment preparation.
- Understanding of chemical storage, handling, and disposal obligations.
- Good grasp of laboratory health and safety practices, including risk management.
- Ability to maintain precise inventories, registers, and records.
- Hands-on experience with maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing laboratory equipment.
- Strong planning and coordination skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Close attention to detail and a strong commitment to safe laboratory operations.
- Clear communication and interpersonal skills for working with staff and students.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and laboratory inventory software.
- Capability to work autonomously, solve problems proactively, and contribute positively to the school community.
