Role overview
This role supports several functions across Sales, Operations, and Quality Assurance. The position is centered on Home Equity underwriting support, scenario guidance, policy interpretation, and process improvement.
What you will do
- Keep current on loan program changes and internal credit policy standards.
- Serve as a coverage resource for the Home Equity Scenario Desk by answering questions related to guideline interpretation, occupancy, income calculations, complex loan situations, and Home Equity policies and procedures.
- Create and maintain common scenario documentation, quick reference guides, and FAQs for MLOs, underwriters, customer experience teams, and processors.
- Own SOP updates for the Home Equity Underwriting department.
- Take part in team meetings and contribute ideas for improving processes.
- Support Home Equity Underwriting Managers by reviewing QA findings and helping shape feedback or targeted training for the underwriting team.
- Partner with Processing Leadership to identify opportunities for better cross-functional collaboration.
- Own follow-up and remediation related to internal audit findings.
- Act as a bridge between Credit Policy and Underwriters when credit exceptions need review and UW leadership is unavailable.
- Review credit policy exception requests each month and recommend where policy revisions may be needed.
- Serve as an additional reference point for the underwriting team when management is unavailable.
- Coordinate with Closing on issue resolution.
- Act as an escalation contact for rush COCs when the assigned underwriter does not have capacity.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in home lending underwriting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to deliver accurate support on time in a high-volume, fast-paced setting.
- Prior experience with Home Equity is preferred.
Additional information
Work location: Charlotte, NC. The role is remote, but remote work from Hawaii or Alaska cannot be supported because of insurance coverage limitations.
