This role supports multiple functions across Sales, Operations, and Quality Assurance within the home equity underwriting space.

Role Summary

The Scenario Desk Underwriter will provide underwriting support across several teams and serve as a subject-matter resource for home equity-related questions, policy interpretation, and issue resolution.

What You’ll Do

  • Stay current on loan program changes and internal credit policy requirements.
  • Support the Home Equity Scenario Desk by answering questions on guideline interpretation, occupancy, income calculations, complex loan situations, and home equity policy and procedure topics.
  • Build and maintain documentation such as common scenario guides, quick reference guides, and FAQs for loan officers, underwriters, customer experience teams, and processors.
  • Own and update standard operating procedures for the Home Equity Underwriting department.
  • Take part in team meetings and contribute ideas for process improvement.
  • Help underwriting managers review quality assurance findings and provide feedback or targeted coaching to the home equity underwriting team.
  • Partner with processing leadership to identify opportunities for better cross-team collaboration.
  • Support internal audit issue resolution and remediation efforts.
  • Serve as a link between Credit Policy and Underwriting for credit exceptions when underwriting management is unavailable.
  • Review credit policy exception requests each month and recommend updates to policy where appropriate.
  • Act as an additional point of contact for the underwriting team when management is unavailable.
  • Coordinate with closing teams on issue management.
  • Escalate rush closing condition changes when an underwriter does not have the capacity to handle them.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in home lending underwriting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate, timely support in a fast-moving environment.

Preferred Background

  • Prior experience in home equity underwriting is preferred.

Additional Information
