Position Overview
We are recruiting a technically skilled and detail-focused Building Automation Sales Estimator to collaborate closely with our sales team. This role involves generating precise and competitive project cost estimates and proposals specifically for building automation systems (BAS). This position calls for strong analytical ability, proficiency in HVAC and BAS, and aptitude in interpreting construction-related documents amid a dynamic work setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly review Requests for Proposal (RFPs), architectural plans, specifications, and scopes for new and retrofit BAS projects.
- Produce accurate cost estimates that encompass control systems, hardware, software, labor, and subcontracted services related to building automation.
- Work jointly with sales, engineering, and operations divisions to develop strategic proposals and align costs accurately with project requirements.
- Perform site inspections when needed to verify project scope and site conditions.
- Create polished proposal packages incorporating detailed scopes of work, budgets, and equipment schedules.
- Pinpoint opportunities for cost reduction and suggest value engineering improvements.
- Maintain and update a comprehensive database of labor and material rates along with estimating tools.
- Assist pre-sales in addressing client queries, clarifying design intents, and contributing to tender interview presentations.
- Manage and track multiple estimates and bids concurrently, ensuring punctual submission.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum two years of experience in estimating or engineering roles relevant to building automation, HVAC, or electrical systems.
- Strong foundational knowledge of BAS, including HVAC controls, direct digital control systems (DDC), sensors, and mechanical system integration.
- Ability to competently read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and specialized estimating software.
- Exceptional attention to detail paired with effective time management capabilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related disciplines.
- Experience working with leading BAS manufacturers/systems such as Automated Logic, Carrier iVu, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Trane, or Schneider Electric.
- Familiarity with design and drafting software like AutoCAD, Revit, or Visio.
- Understanding of energy management concepts and sustainability compliance standards like NABERS and GREENSTAR.
- Knowledge of commissioning standards, including CIBSE guidelines.
