Job description
Role Overview
Arabian Construction Co. is looking for a Safety Officer to support health, safety, and environmental compliance across construction sites in Abu Dhabi. This position focuses on making sure site safety procedures are followed, inspections are carried out, risks are assessed, incidents are investigated, and a strong safety-first mindset is maintained in line with legal requirements, client standards, and company HSE policies.
The role requires a NEBOSH Level 6 qualification and prior experience on building projects.
Site Safety Management and Compliance
- Contribute actively to day-to-day safety management on site and help ensure all HSE rules and regulations are being met.
- Track compliance with site safety procedures among project teams, subcontractors, and vendors; issue warnings and stop-work instructions when rules are breached.
- Carry out scheduled site inspections and audits to verify compliance with applicable statutory requirements, including ADPHC, ADOSH, DM Code, and other local safety standards, as well as OSH policies.
- Keep safety files, logs, and registers updated, and send monthly HSE reports to the Project HSE Manager and the Group HSE Office.
- Spot weak areas in site safety performance and recommend corrective and contingency measures.
Coordination, Communication, and Reporting
- Coordinate with safety representatives from consultants, subcontractors, and vendors working on the project.
- Share safety observations, performance updates, and concerns with line management in a clear and timely manner.
- Participate in scheduled and impromptu safety meetings.
- Listen to workers’ safety concerns and encourage practical ideas to improve site safety.
- Interact effectively with both technical and non-technical teams using strong communication and people skills.
Risk Assessment, Incident Review, and Emergency Preparedness
- Support investigations into occupational incidents, injuries, hazards, illnesses, and near misses, and help develop preventive actions.
- Review and comment on risk assessments and OHS method statements for high-risk site activities.
- Conduct emergency drills and exercises to test the readiness of site emergency response plans.
- Identify possible hazard zones and advise the operations team on preventive controls.
- Work with the site medical team on medicine needs and other health-related concerns.
Training and Safety Promotion
- Promote safety awareness by delivering site induction sessions and safety briefings.
- Coordinate internal or external training programs for workers and supervisors.
- Work with logistics teams to suggest and monitor site security controls and report unsafe practices for improvement.
Hazardous Materials and Waste Management
- Coordinate hazardous material handling and waste management with logistics and sustainability teams.
- Ensure hazardous materials and waste are stored, handled, and disposed of correctly according to approved procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should hold a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree or diploma in HSE, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Marine, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Mandatory certifications include the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or an NVQ Level 6 equivalent, and ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification. OSHA 10–30 Hours General Industry Safety and Health Program and other HSE-related training are preferred.
Applicants must have 5 or more years of relevant HSE experience in engineering or construction, especially villa or building projects.
