Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and committed Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager to foster a proactive safety culture at our Smithfield manufacturing facility. This role demands a hands-on HSE professional who will collaborate closely with operational leadership and the frontline workforce to enhance safety leadership, accountability, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with site leaders to develop HSE capabilities and ensure ownership and accountability for safety across the facility.
  • Coach, mentor, and influence leadership to adopt effective safety practices and promote behavioral safety initiatives.
  • Lead and support safety initiatives driven by leadership to cultivate a proactive safety environment.
  • Facilitate comprehensive risk assessments, hazard analyses, and management of critical risks.
  • Manage investigations of incidents, root cause analyses, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Oversee injury management and return-to-work processes in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Design and deliver engaging training and awareness programs related to health, safety, and environment.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on HSE performance metrics and emerging trends.
  • Participate in national and APAC HSE projects in collaboration with the regional HSE team.
  • Support audit programs, governance activities, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Contribute to system enhancements for reporting platforms, including SharePoint intranet and Health & Safety Management systems.
  • Enhance contractor management procedures and ensure site compliance with established standards.
  • Engage with operational teams on projects and change initiatives to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships across company levels to influence positive HSE outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety, Engineering, Science, or related fields.
  • 7 to 10 years of professional HSE experience, preferably in manufacturing sectors such as plastics, heavy manufacturing, transport, FMCG, building materials, construction, or other high-risk environments.
  • Proactive and confident with strong leadership skills, able to influence through relationship-building.
  • Proven experience coaching leaders to advance safety performance, behaviors, and accountability.
  • Expertise in risk management, incident investigation, and safety governance.
  • Experienced in managing injury management, workers' compensation, and return-to-work programs.
  • Excellent communication abilities and a strong capacity to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Comfortable maintaining a visible presence on the manufacturing floor and working closely with frontline workers.
  • Analytical proficiency in HSE data analysis and reporting, with familiarity in HSE systems.
  • Skilled in conducting complex investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Certifications such as Certificate IV in Training & Assessment are considered advantageous.
