Job Purpose
- Implement and oversee the entire safety and security framework within the organization.
- Execute the Integrated Management System including AS9100, ISO14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Drive the adoption of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) principles.
Context & Challenges
Hindalco Almex Aerospace Limited is India's pioneer in manufacturing large-diameter aerospace aluminum alloy billets and slabs. This JV with Almex, USA, currently operates with a capacity of 12,000 MTPA aiming to expand to 46,000 MTPA through phased commissioning. The increasing demand is driven by the growth in air travel. The role demands expertise in maintaining uninterrupted, skilled equipment operation and mastering advanced technologies to meet aerospace industry standards domestically and internationally. Responsibilities include complex administrative and technical execution of environmental, health, and safety programs. Key challenges include implementing fire and safety systems, especially for handling propane plants and molten metals, and leading comprehensive safety training.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and monitor rigorous fire and safety protocols, ensuring legal compliance and workplace safety across all operations.
- Conduct and follow up on incident investigations, implement corrective actions, and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Coordinate safety inspections, hazard assessments, and audits related to OHSAS 18001 and other certification requirements.
- Manage the issuance of permits, personal protective equipment distribution, and restrict unauthorized access to hazardous areas.
- Develop and update documentation supporting Integrated Management System (IMS) certifications including AS9100 and ISO14001.
- Organize and facilitate safety, fire, and emergency preparedness training for employees and contractors.
- Oversee Occupational Health Centre (OHC) functions, ensuring readiness for medical emergencies and availability of necessary supplies.
- Supervise time office activities including attendance monitoring and reporting.
- Control general administration functions such as security and garden maintenance.
Additional Information
This role involves continuous training of new employees to integrate them into the company culture emphasizing health and safety. Strict monitoring of hazardous operations and near-miss incidents is required with proactive safety audits and observations. Ensuring proper handling of propane gases and strict no-smoking policies within premises is paramount.
