Job description

Role Overview

This position involves sorting, delivering, and collecting mail on a designated rural route by vehicle, while also helping customers with a range of postal services.

Key Duties

  • Arrange mail in the order it will be delivered for the assigned route.
  • Accept accountable mail and sign for it when required.
  • Load outgoing and route mail into the delivery vehicle.
  • Complete deliveries on a regular schedule, collect payments and receipts for accountable mail, and pick up mail from roadside customer boxes.
  • Sell postage, stamped paper, and money orders; handle COD, registered, certified, insured, and parcel mail; and provide general postal information and standard forms.
  • Return collected mail, undeliverable pieces, and all money and receipts to the post office.
  • Prepare forwarding mail and keep change-of-address records updated.
  • Create daily trip reports and maintain the customer list for the route.
  • Perform special surveys when needed.
  • Track stamp and stamped-paper inventory to ensure customer service needs are met.
  • Maintain mail security at all times.

Exam Requirement

This role requires passing an examination. Candidates without an existing exam score are currently being invited to take the exam until the available capacity is filled.

Driving Requirement

Applicants must hold a valid state driver’s license, maintain a safe driving record, and have at least two years of unsupervised experience driving passenger cars or larger vehicles. Driving experience must have occurred in the United States, its territories or possessions, or on U.S. military installations worldwide.

Language and Employment Conditions

Candidates must be able to speak and understand English, with or without a reasonable accommodation under the Rehabilitation Act. Employment is contingent on meeting medical suitability, general eligibility, suitability, and background check requirements. If offered the job, these conditions must still be satisfied, even if work begins before final clearance.

Schedule and Pay

Starting pay is $26.69 per hour, paid bi-weekly. Non-scheduled days and working hours vary.
