Job description
Job Overview
This position requires spearheading the bancassurance alliance with HDFC Bank for the Non-Branch Banking segment. The objective is to drive business growth by optimizing costs, meeting sales targets, and enhancing overall profitability. Key focus areas include developing new business opportunities and fostering a motivated sales team to expand and solidify this partnership.
Context and Challenges
Bancassurance represents the channel where banks enable insurance providers to market products to their customer base. Since April 2017, ABSLI has partnered with HDFC Bank to distribute its insurance solutions via the bank's alternate channels beyond traditional branches — targeting a spectrum of clients from high net worth individuals to retail banking customers. The open architecture model offers customers competitive life insurance options from multiple companies, reducing risks of mis-selling under regulatory oversight.
The role faces several challenges:
- Mindshare Competition: The bank simultaneously promotes insurance products from HDFC Life (with a 17-year legacy) and TATA AIA, both wielding strong brand presence, creating intense competition to capture market share.
- Product Mix Influence: While the bank primarily pushes ULIP products, promoting a balanced portfolio including non-participating and term insurance plans is essential but difficult.
- System Adoption: Working with the bank demands adapting to their processes, technologies, and product requirements, adding pressure to consistently outperform competitors within a strict multichannel framework.
- Leakage Control: Minimizing the gap between policies initiated and actually issued is crucial to prevent productivity losses and increased costs.
- Geographical Spread: Managing extensive distribution across metro, urban, semi-urban, and rural locations requires efficient resource deployment despite workforce limitations.
- Market Penetration: Despite Government initiatives, life insurance penetration remains low in India; converting insurance from a pushed product to an attractive choice remains challenging.
- Operational and IT Hurdles: Mandatory usage of digital applications in policy processing as per bank standards demands high operational agility and accuracy.
