Job description
Role Overview
The Room Attendant is tasked with keeping guest rooms, bathrooms, hallways, and designated public spaces clean, well-presented, and maintained to the hotel’s expected standards, policies, and procedures. The position is central to creating a safe, comfortable, and welcoming stay for guests through consistently high housekeeping standards.
The duties listed here are not exhaustive. Additional work may be assigned by management when needed to support business operations.
Guest Room Cleaning and Presentation
- Obtain room keys, daily assignments, and any necessary instructions from the Housekeeping Supervisor before starting the shift.
- Stock and arrange the housekeeping trolley with linens, amenities, cleaning tools, and supplies needed to complete the assigned workload efficiently.
- Service, clean, and maintain guest rooms in line with the hotel’s standard operating procedures and brand guidelines.
- Refill room amenities, linens, supplies, and minibar items where applicable to support guest comfort.
- Make sure each room is cleaned, inspected, and left in excellent condition with a polished appearance.
Bathroom Cleaning and Maintenance
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain guest bathrooms according to hygiene requirements and hotel procedures.
- Replace towels, bathroom amenities, and other consumables as needed.
- Check that bathroom fittings, fixtures, and surfaces are clean, working properly, and free from issues.
Guest Service Excellence
- Handle guest possessions carefully and discreetly while cleaning occupied rooms.
- Neatly organize guest belongings while respecting privacy and security.
- Report misplaced items immediately following hotel lost-and-found procedures.
- Work with valet and laundry services for guest laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing requests to ensure prompt delivery.
- Answer guest questions and requests politely and professionally, escalating issues when required.
Housekeeping Operations
- Keep guest corridors, service pantries, housekeeping stores, and back-of-house areas clean and orderly.
- Use housekeeping equipment and supplies correctly and store them safely after use.
- Immediately inform the Engineering team or supervisor about maintenance problems, damage, or safety concerns.
- Help meet departmental productivity goals while still maintaining quality standards.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Responsibilities
- Follow all safety, hygiene, security, and health procedures at all times.
- Use equipment and cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with hotel guidelines.
- Report accidents, unsafe conditions, incidents, and hazards without delay.
- Support sustainability efforts by reducing waste and conserving water and energy.
- Comply fully with environmental, fire, health, and safety regulations and procedures.
Quality and Brand Standards
- Consistently follow brand standards, quality assurance expectations, and housekeeping procedures.
- Show strong attention to detail to maintain outstanding cleanliness.
- Contribute to guest satisfaction and the hotel’s reputation through high-quality housekeeping service.

Experience and Working Expectations
- Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience is preferred.
- Comfort using standard cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners and floor polishers, along with commercial cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to work an 8-hour shift that involves frequent bending, lifting, and standing.
- Expected to clean an assigned workload of around 12 to 16 rooms per shift within strict time targets.
- Strong attention to detail is needed for tasks such as precise linen placement, spotless bathroom surfaces, and properly replenished amenities.
