Role overview

The Laundry Attendant works under the Laundry Supervisor and plays a key role in keeping the hotel supplied with spotless linens, towels, uniforms, and guest garments. The position is focused on quality cleaning, careful handling, efficient processing, and proper storage so that guest and operational needs are met consistently.

Core duties

  • Separate soiled linens, towels, uniforms, and other laundry pieces based on colour, fabric type, and how heavily they are soiled.
  • Run washers, dryers, and related laundry machinery in line with established operating procedures.
  • Measure and add detergents, fabric softeners, and other cleaning agents in the correct quantities.
  • Neatly fold and stack cleaned items for storage and distribution.
  • Use ironing and pressing tools when needed to ensure garments and linens are presentable and wrinkle-free.
  • Check finished laundry to confirm it meets hotel quality expectations, including the absence of stains, damage, or missing articles.
  • Track stock levels of linens, chemicals, and cleaning supplies and notify the supervisor when items run low.
  • Refill housekeeping carts and storage areas with freshly cleaned items as required.
  • Keep operational records such as wash counts, damaged articles, and special guest requests.
  • Provide guest laundry and dry-cleaning services when requested.
  • Handle delicate guest garments carefully and follow any special care instructions.
  • Report equipment problems to the maintenance team so repairs can be arranged promptly.
  • Follow safety rules and hotel procedures related to chemicals and laundry machinery.
  • Keep the laundry area tidy, well-organized, and safe for efficient operations.
  • Support housekeeping with tasks such as replenishing room linens when needed.
  • Assist other laundry team members during busy periods or special events.
  • Clean machines and work areas regularly.
  • Check the logbook for guest laundry.
  • Post guest laundry charges before delivery.
  • Deliver guest laundry according to room number and guest name.
  • Ensure laundry policies, systems, procedures, and standards are followed on the floor.
  • Maintain hygiene and safety standards throughout the laundry operation.
  • Comply fully with all mandatory training requirements.

Key strengths needed

This role calls for someone with strong attention to detail, a reliable and professional work style, the ability to stay organized, and the flexibility to work independently or as part of a team. A helpful attitude, good communication, and a strong focus on service quality are important for success.

Background and working expectations

The employer values attitude and core competencies and provides training for technical skills. A high school diploma or GED is typically preferred, though it is not usually mandatory. Some hospitality or commercial laundry experience, usually around 1 to 3 years, is helpful for this role. Candidates should be comfortable working early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The job also requires accuracy when checking tags, identifying damage or stains, sorting items by colour, and following instructions. Basic reading and spoken communication skills are important for understanding directions, labelling items, and responding politely to customer queries.
