The team, numbering around 35 in the UK, France, Spain, and Ireland, is now expanding into autonomous vehicle and robotics solutions.
Role Overview
This position is part of Transpoco's innovation division focusing on autonomous systems for outdoor robotic applications that operate in challenging environments with limited GNSS availability. The role involves developing, integrating, and testing software, sensors, and hardware with real robotic deployments, offering a hands-on opportunity to tackle complex navigation and perception challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop software transforming raw sensor signals into detection, measurement, and positioning data, primarily utilizing ROS 2, C++, and Python.
- Deploy robotic solutions effectively in operational settings to generate tangible benefits for users.
- Develop and refine positioning frameworks combining GNSS/GPS, SLAM, and other localisation methods for reliable real-world navigation.
- Integrate and adjust sensors such as LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, and GNSS receivers to function robustly on vehicles.
- Conduct field testing, debugging, and iterative improvements from onsite pilot deployments.
- Engage in research activities by reviewing academic literature, experimenting with approaches, and reporting on effectiveness.
- Adapt across software, sensor, and hardware tasks as needed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation to ensure project knowledge is accessible across the team.
- Support technical aspects of customer engagements, tender preparations, pilot projects, and product development dialogue.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- A degree or equivalent hands-on experience in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
- Proficiency in coding with C++ and/or Python, with confidence in writing and debugging actual code.
- Experience or familiarity with ROS or ROS 2 platforms through academic, personal, or internship projects.
- A solid foundational knowledge and interest in positioning technologies such as GPS/GNSS, SLAM, and localisation strategies.
- Comfortable working across software, electronics, and hardware disciplines; possessing a practical, hands-on approach.
- Experience with Linux environments and version control using git.
- Diligence in managing and prioritizing multiple tasks autonomously, owning problems through resolution.
- A proactive, inquisitive, and driven mindset emphasizing learning and potential over past credentials.
Additional Beneficial Skills (Not Required)
- Practical experience with GNSS/RTK systems, sensor fusion algorithms (EKF/UKF, particle filters), or SLAM implementations.
- CAD design skills for sensor mounting hardware (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Onshape).
- Knowledge in computer vision or point cloud analysis (OpenCV, PCL) and machine learning-based perception methods.
- Simulation tools experience including Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or Webots.
- Background in embedded systems or real-time programming.
- Involvement in robotics competitions, thesis, or major projects integrating hardware and software elements.
