Job description

Role Overview

As a Robotics Manufacturing Engineer at Tesla Automation GmbH, you will spearhead the development, construction, and launch of manufacturing lines dedicated to geartrain production within the Optimus Actuators. Your focus will be on ensuring optimal effectiveness, high production throughput, and safety while validating equipment performance and fully documenting all projects before transferring to operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage CAD and simulation software (AutoCAD, FactoryCAD, or similar) to generate 2D/3D designs, floor layouts, and detailed schematics supporting both primary production lines and supplementary areas in geartrain manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with simulation teams to establish manufacturing flow constraints involving aisle widths, raw materials ingress, and in-process inventory between production cells.
  • Lead the installation, commissioning, integration, troubleshooting, and setup of manufacturing machinery, peripheral tools, and automated systems.
  • Manage the seamless handoff of commissioned manufacturing lines to production, including operator training, procedural documentation, and bill of materials creation, while addressing any issues during launch.
  • Participate in R&D initiatives by proactively incorporating layout, material handling, and facility requirements early in equipment design for scalable and efficient production.
  • Design detailed cell and line layouts for each gearbox variant, optimizing machine placement, integration, workstations, flow paths, utilities, and storage to maximize efficiency.
  • Engage with cross-disciplinary teams—including factory operations, infrastructure, material flow, design, manufacturing engineering, EHS staff, and project leadership—to align line layouts with overall factory architecture.
  • Ensure compliance with Tesla’s strict safety protocols, ergonomic standards, and lean manufacturing principles when evaluating and implementing new processes and equipment.
  • Analyze production, material handling, and space utilization data to recommend improvements aligned with evolving R&D developments.
  • Create custom fixtures, tooling, and manufacturing cell structures with detailed build-to-print documentation for fabrication purposes.

Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience; advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
  • Extensive experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering involving direct participation in factory or plant layout design.
  • Proficiency with layout design software, process simulation tools, and data interpretation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing procedures, material logistics, ergonomics, and safety standards.
  • Hands-on experience designing mechanical equipment, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Expertise in high-speed gantry systems, including pick-and-place operations integrated with conveyor setups.
  • Familiarity with material flow analysis and various industrial robots utilized in rapid material transfer and pick-and-place tasks.
  • Experienced with SolidWorks CAD and PDM software; familiarity with CATIA and Siemens NX is also relevant.
  • Knowledge of automation, CNC machining, heat treatment, assembly, and end-of-line testing equipment.
  • Strong command of drafting and dimensioning standards, especially GD&T per ASME Y14.5 guidelines.
  • Proficient professional communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to undertake international travel regularly.

Additional Information

This position is based in Prüm, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, and requires full-time onsite presence with potential frequent international travel. The role demands a high level of technical expertise in advanced manufacturing line design and commissioning within a fast-paced high-volume production environment.
