Role overview
This role is for a roadside rescue mechanic with The AA, supporting members when their vehicles break down and helping them get safely back on the road. You’ll be the reassuring first point of contact for drivers, working in all kinds of weather and across a range of locations.
Pay and working pattern
The first year includes guaranteed earnings of £40,270, with allowances included, and top performers can earn up to £60,000 OTE. The job is based around an average 40-hour working week. A range of shift patterns is available, giving you some flexibility to choose a schedule that better suits your personal and professional life. Rest days and shift lengths depend on the pattern selected.
You will start and finish from your driveway, and your paid time begins when you get into your van and ends when you return home.
Main duties
- Support motorists by diagnosing and fixing breakdowns at the roadside wherever they happen.
- Work on your own across changing locations and conditions while staying connected to a wider, supportive team.
- Use technical know-how and clear communication to create a positive experience for customers.
- Think quickly and solve problems in the moment, using a calm, practical approach to a wide variety of roadside issues.
Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or a similar qualification backed by relevant experience.
- A full Category B driving licence with 6 points or fewer.
- Comfort using new technology and adapting to tools provided for the role.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
