Job Overview
The Road Patrol Officer plays a critical role in assisting motorists by diagnosing vehicle problems on-site and conducting minor roadside repairs wherever possible. When repairs cannot be completed immediately, the officer arranges for appropriate vehicle recovery services. This role involves providing assurance, safety guidance, and clear communication to members during roadside incidents. Equipped with specialized knowledge and tools, the officer addresses various vehicle issues ranging from battery failures and flat tires to complex engine or electrical faults.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Automobile Association (AA) members encountering roadside breakdowns in both urban and rural zones by performing minor emergency repairs or organizing towing services with AA trucks or recovery providers.
- Sell replacement batteries to members in cases of faulty or out-of-warranty batteries.
- Offer additional vehicle-related support when appropriate.
- Maintain tools and equipment in optimal condition, reporting any malfunctions to Team Leaders or the Regional Manager.
- Ensure safekeeping of company vehicles, tools, and equipment at all times.
- Complete all required administrative tasks accurately and punctually.
- Maintain a professional and presentable appearance to the public consistently.
- Adhere to the AA brand standards, including compliance with prescribed driving behaviors.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certification in Motor Mechanic or Auto Electrical fields, or equivalent qualifications such as an N Certificate.
- Minimum of three years’ practical experience in vehicle diagnostics.
- Experience in a sales-oriented environment is considered beneficial.
- Possession of an advanced driving certificate is advantageous.
Additional Requirements
- Mandatory valid Code C1 (10) or Code EC/EC1 (14) driver's license.
- Possession of a Professional Driver's Permit (PDP) will enhance candidacy.
- Flexibility to work shifts according to operational demands.
