Job description
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform that helps businesses accept payments, expand revenue, and unlock new growth opportunities. Its customers range from large enterprises to fast-growing startups. The company’s goal is to raise the GDP of the internet, and this role sits within work that supports that mission at scale.
About the Financial Crimes team
The Financial Crimes function is responsible for protecting trust across Stripe’s platform and supporting a sound financial ecosystem. The team works to prevent prohibited parties from using Stripe, detect activity linked to money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes, and help Stripe grow safely while meeting regulatory expectations.
Role overview
As a Risk Operations Analyst, you will help ensure that policies, workflows, and operational practices meet the needs of Stripe’s financial partners. You will own work that affects both internal and external stakeholders, assess regulatory, contractual, and partner-related risk, and support the creation of scalable operating processes. The role also involves helping teams maintain service-level commitments, produce regular reporting, and strengthen risk controls.
What you will do
- Use strong judgment to work through complex, high-risk situations where the answer is not always clear-cut.
- Follow established processes carefully while also challenging assumptions and proposing better ways of working without compromising compliance or customer experience.
- Communicate effectively with internal teammates, Stripe users, and financial partners.
- Review data to identify and assess financial crime exposure, look for suspicious behavior, and track relevant trends.
- Support the redesign of business processes by defining problems, clarifying gaps, and helping implement improvements that raise efficiency, control, and compliance.
- Contribute to building and expanding operational processes across the financial crimes ecosystem.
- Spot weaknesses in current systems, policies, and strategy, and recommend practical improvements in partnership with stakeholders.
Minimum qualifications
- At least 4 years of experience in risk management, compliance, or financial operations.
- Working knowledge of financial crime warning signs and the common patterns used to identify them.
- Hands-on experience with process improvement initiatives.
- Strong analytical thinking and the ability to make reasoned decisions in complex situations by weighing internal and external factors.
- Ability to create clear, accurate, and concise written materials and presentations.
- Experience using feedback patterns to improve processes and product outcomes.
- Background in creating compliance policies and procedures for payment processing environments.
- Experience with merchant risk assessments, transaction monitoring, and risk-based compliance controls.
- Experience managing operational outcomes at scale through vendor relationships, third-party integrations, and automated solutions.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with data analysis tools such as SQL.
- Background in transaction monitoring or financial investigations, including sanctions, AML, EDD, KYC, or KYB.
- Familiarity with payment processing systems and the risks associated with them.
Work arrangement
This position can be based in an office or in a remote location that is at least 35 miles (56 kilometers) from a Stripe office. If you are office-based, you are expected to spend at least 50% of each month in your local office or with users. If you work remotely, you are expected to primarily work from home, though occasional office visits for team meetings, on-sites, meetups, and events may still happen. Stripe does not pay for relocation to a remote location, so applicants are encouraged to apply for a location that matches where they currently live or plan to live.
Pay and benefits
The annual base salary range in the United States for this role is $89,000 to $133,400. For applicants outside the United States, the salary range for the relevant location may be discussed during the interview process. Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus or commissions, a 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision coverage, and wellness stipends.
