Job description
Role overview
As a Revenues Officer, you will advise residents on council tax matters and help ensure the council collects the income needed to support essential local services and projects. South Gloucestershire Council is currently ranked in the top quartile nationally for council tax collection, and this position plays an important part in maintaining that performance.
Key duties
- Assess whether council tax exemptions, discounts and liability rules apply in each case.
- Keep computer systems accurate and up to date using information received by email, post, the corporate contact centre and one-stop shops.
- Work closely with other council teams and the Valuation Office Agency to share information about property valuations.
What the council is looking for
- A minimum of NVQ Level 3 in Customer Service, an equivalent qualification, or practical experience in revenues administration.
- Strong working knowledge of council tax legislation, with the ability to interpret and explain the rules clearly.
- Excellent customer care skills and the capability to organise and complete a high volume of work.
- Although not required, an Institute of Revenues Rating and Valuation qualification would be an advantage.
Working arrangement
This is a hybrid position, split between the Yate office and home working.
