Job description

About the role

This opportunity is for a Revenue & Collections Officer within the South Australian public sector, based in Adelaide CBD / Metro, South Australia. The work involves government debt collection and revenue management, with a strong emphasis on ethical recovery, compliance, and respectful customer support. Both ongoing permanent roles and term contract options are available.

Rather than a hard-sell collections environment, this role is focused on helping South Australian residents and businesses address overdue government fees, fines, or taxes, while maintaining fairness and adherence to public sector standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls as well as written communication related to outstanding government charges.
  • Review each customer’s situation and work out practical payment arrangements that align with legislation and policy.
  • Keep records accurate by updating customer details, maintaining account balances, and processing financial transactions in secure government systems.
  • Follow confidentiality obligations and regulatory requirements, ensuring every interaction is handled fairly and respectfully.

What we are looking for

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to manage challenging conversations calmly and professionally.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving ability to reach workable outcomes.
  • Comfort using multiple software platforms, databases, and standard office applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • A high level of integrity, respect for public sector values, and a commitment to confidentiality.

Clearances and suitability

A current National Police Certificate is required for this position. A current DHS Working with Children Check is strongly preferred.

Experience from retail, banking, customer service, call centre, or administrative work is highly relevant and transfers well to this role.
