Overview

Selwyn District Council is seeking an experienced Contract Supervisor to support its Resource Recovery & Waste team in Rolleston, Canterbury. Reporting to the Resource Recovery & Waste Manager, this role is central to the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of waste and resource recovery services for the community.

The position is varied and involves working with contractors, internal teams, and external stakeholders to oversee service delivery, improve performance, and help advance waste minimisation goals.

Key duties

  • Take ownership of the day-to-day oversight of the Pines Resource Recovery Park Operations Contract and the Kerbside Collections Contract.
  • Track contractor delivery, including compliance, health and safety, and environmental obligations.
  • Handle service requests and work through operational or customer issues promptly.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with contractors and other key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to project delivery, budgeting, planning, reporting, and ongoing improvement work across the Resource Recovery & Waste function.

Experience and qualifications

  • Substantial background in contract management, preferably gained in local government, infrastructure, utilities, or a contractor-facing environment.
  • Strong capability in project coordination and managing contractor performance.
  • Experience working with operational data, including analysis, interpretation, and presentation.
  • Proven ability to resolve problems and manage multiple competing demands.
  • Excellent communication skills, with strong stakeholder and relationship management capability.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and a full New Zealand driver licence are required.
  • Experience in waste and resource recovery is considered an advantage.
