Role overview
American University is seeking a part-time Research/Teaching Assistant for the Kogod School of Business in Washington, DC. This role is intended to help a student build practical experience while contributing to teaching and research activities within the university community.
Eligibility
This opportunity is open only to students who are currently enrolled at American University. Most student jobs at the university may be eligible for Federal Work Study funding, with certain exclusions. Federal Work Study funds are not applicable to janitorial, construction, partisan, or sectarian roles. Questions about FWS eligibility should be directed to the Office of Financial Aid.

Department: Kogod School of Business. Employment type: part-time. FLSA status: Non-Exempt.
What the role involves
- Support teaching activities by helping prepare lecture notes, assignments, exams, and other course materials.
- Lead or assist with tutorials, workshops, or lab sessions that reinforce student learning.
- Respond to student questions and provide course-related academic support.
- Review assignments, exams, and other assessments and assign grades.
- Share helpful feedback that supports student progress and understanding.
- Keep organized records of grades and attendance.
- Work with faculty on research projects in progress.
- Help gather sources, conduct literature reviews, and support data collection and analysis.
- Assist with research outputs such as publications and presentations.
- Help coordinate academic events, seminars, and workshops.
Hours and pay
This is a part-time role with an expected commitment of 5 hours per week. The hourly pay rate is $18.40.
Required background and abilities
The ideal candidate should be in strong academic standing with a solid GPA. They should be able to communicate clearly in both writing and speech, explain complex ideas in an easy-to-understand way, and work well with students, faculty, and staff. The role also calls for familiarity with research methods, data analysis, and literature review work, along with strong organization, time management, and the ability to juggle several tasks and deadlines at once.
Preferred experience
Prior research experience is considered an advantage.
