About the Position
The University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) seeks a Research Assistant Scientist dedicated to advancing research in microbiology and plant sciences. This 12-month non-tenure position is fully research-focused within the Microbiology and Cell Science Department. The role involves contributing to ongoing projects including a multi-year tomato research initiative and supporting regulatory documentation for a citrus project concerning EPA and FDA guidelines.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct field sampling, sample extraction, and analysis related to the tomato project.
- Prepare and manage documentation for EPA submissions and FDA label approvals regarding commercial citrus lines.
- Assist in overseeing laboratory personnel.
- Participate actively in grant proposal writing as principal or co-investigator, often serving as lead PI.
- Support IFAS's tripartite mission encompassing research, teaching, and extension activities.

Qualifications
- Doctorate (or equivalent) in life sciences, plant sciences, or closely related fields.
- Proven ability in verbal and written communication, including scholarly publication.
- Demonstrated experience in research involving analysis, visualization, and interpretation of large datasets, preferably sensitive information like student or patient data.
- Commitment to the Land-Grant mission and alignment with University of Florida's core values.
Preferred: Postdoctoral research experience is advantageous.
