Job description
Position Overview
The University of Florida's Khanna Lab is seeking a Biological Scientist I to conduct specialized research within the realms of RNA-scope and protein chemistry, among others. The role entails designing, planning, and performing advanced lab projects focused on neuronal RNA-scope and wide-field microscopy.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute recombinant DNA methodologies including plasmid DNA isolation and purification, DNA restriction analysis, PCR, qPCR, bacterial transformations, and agarose gel electrophoresis.
- Perform protein biochemistry techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting, and ELISA assays.
- Conduct cellular biology research including mammalian cell culture, transfections, and analyses using confocal and wide-field microscopy.
- Investigate mechanisms of action for channel interfering compounds in rodent nociceptors.
- Coordinate communication between principal investigator, lab members, and partners both within and beyond UF.
- Manage multiple ongoing research projects ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations including ACS, EH&S, IACUC protocols.
- Oversee laboratory inventory, order management, and vendor negotiations to utilize grant funds effectively.
- Analyze experimental data and assist in preparing scientific manuscripts, abstracts, and grant documents.
- Maintain meticulous laboratory records and documentation aligned with research policies.
- Contribute to literature reviews and development of novel research protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or a closely related life science discipline.
Preferred Experience
- Hands-on proficiency in RNA scope techniques, protein chemistry, and sterile mammalian cell culture methods.
Working Conditions
- Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
- Additional work during evenings, weekends, and holidays may be necessary based on experimental needs.
Salary
The expected pay range is $22.03 to $23.00 per hour.
