About the Role
The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) at Duke-NUS Medical School focuses on advanced research integrating immunology, infection biology, pathogen genomics, and computational methods to understand emerging infections at multiple biological levels. The Coronavirus Lab, headed by Assistant Professor Mart Lamers, is seeking a Research Assistant or Senior Research Assistant to provide operational and technical support. This role is ideal for an experienced professional desiring a stable, long-term position in a high-impact virology research setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily laboratory operations to enhance efficiency, organization, and productivity.
- Process, document, and maintain sample and stock inventories with accuracy and traceability.
- Handle procurement and logistics to ensure timely sourcing and delivery of reagents and equipment.
- Promote and enforce safety standards, managing chemical and biological protocols to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Prepare reagents and buffers while maintaining a well-organized lab environment.
- Support research activities through hands-on assistance in molecular cloning, protein analysis, and histological techniques.
- Train and supervise junior lab members on best practices and technical procedures.
- Oversee virus stock production and quantification processes.
- Perform additional related tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Life Sciences, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or related disciplines.
- Minimum of two years of professional experience managing research laboratory operations.
- Practical expertise with BSL-2 lab techniques, including cell culture, molecular biology, and biochemistry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safety regulations, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; proficient in documentation and data management.
- Detail-focused, responsible, self-driven, able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Commitment to scientific rigor, teamwork, and laboratory safety.
- Strong motivation for a long-term role to support continuity and sustained lab growth.
- Preferred experience: virology, BSL-3 labs, and organoid culture techniques.
