Role overview
Community Health Systems (CHS) is seeking a Remote Scheduling Specialist for its Patient Access Center. In this role, you will support patients as a primary first contact, help coordinate appointments, and ensure patient information and requests are communicated accurately to clinical teams. The position is fully remote.
What the role involves
- Arrange patient appointments accurately across one or more clinics, depending on your assignment.
- Handle incoming messages and calls from patients, clinicians, and staff through phone, text, email, and call center tools to manage scheduling needs and urgent requests.
- Identify calls that require immediate clinical attention and transfer them promptly to clinic staff; for non-urgent issues such as refill needs or clinical questions, document and route them through the EMR.
- Confirm patient demographic details and insurance information while following all applicable compliance requirements.
- Look up patient requests in the medical record, share needed information, and resolve questions while protecting patient privacy.
- Keep EMR in-baskets, call center systems, and related tools monitored so communication tasks stay on track.
- Provide professional, timely support to patients, providers, and facility staff.
- Take on additional duties as assigned and follow all organizational policies and standards.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- A bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in scheduling, operations, or healthcare administration is required.
- 1 to 3 years of experience with physician scheduling, patient appointment scheduling, or call center operations is required.
Skills and abilities
- Working knowledge of scheduling systems, EMR platforms, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer-service mindset with the ability to provide prompt and courteous assistance.
- Good judgment and problem-solving ability.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities in a busy healthcare or call center setting.
- Understanding of healthcare standards, confidentiality, and compliance practices.
