Job description

About RoomPriceGenie

RoomPriceGenie, founded in 2017, builds pricing technology for hoteliers worldwide. The company focuses on helping smaller hotels overcome digitalization challenges that can make day-to-day operations more difficult and lead to missed revenue opportunities.

Its platform helps hotels determine the right room prices within seconds. The system uses a modern algorithm that combines internal hotel information with market trends to suggest pricing approaches aimed at improving revenue and increasing bookings.

The company works with customers across many countries, including the USA, Canada, Iceland, South Africa, China, Slovenia, Italy, and the UK. It is looking to grow its customer base further and invites applicants from diverse backgrounds to help strengthen innovation and team perspective.

Role Overview

This position is for a Head of UX who will lead a compact design and research group made up of two product designers and one user researcher. The role is centered on leadership rather than hands-on execution, so it is not meant for someone primarily looking to do individual design production or run research sessions directly.

The successful candidate will shape the direction of the design and research function, represent the team at leadership level, and build the environment needed for the team to perform at its best. The role also contributes to increasing design and research maturity across the product organization through better systems, shared guidance, and more informed product decisions.

Leadership Representation and Advocacy

  • Position design and research as strategic partners that influence the product roadmap.
  • Work with product leadership to turn business priorities into a clear, ordered roadmap for Design and Research.

Strategic Direction and Vision

  • Define a strong vision for the design and research function, including what success looks like, where the function is going, and how it supports company strategy.
  • Improve the maturity of design and research by offering thoughtful critique and quality oversight that helps deliver stronger product outcomes.
  • Make room for foundational work that scales impact, such as evolving the component library into a stronger design system and creating design and content playbooks that improve consistency, speed, and quality.

AI Operations and Enablement

  • Guide how AI should be used in the design and research workflow, including where it can speed up work, where human craft must remain central, and what boundaries should apply across the organization.
  • Build a team culture that uses AI in product work and develops practical fluency through experimentation and daily use.
  • Ensure designers and researchers help shape product direction and AI direction by grounding decisions in user insight and design thinking.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Promote design thinking throughout the product lifecycle so it influences ideas and decisions early.
  • Identify major UX opportunities that affect multiple parts of the product.
  • Balance leadership priorities with team capacity so the group stays focused on the highest-impact work.

Team Development and Coaching

  • Support team members through regular one-to-one coaching, mentoring, and direct feedback focused on development.
  • Establish career frameworks and growth paths for both Design and Research.
  • Encourage ongoing learning, flexibility, and professional growth within the team.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate understands both design and research disciplines, even if their primary experience sits more strongly in one of them. A deep expert-level background in both is not required, but both areas must be valued equally.

Applicants should bring senior design leadership experience, including ownership of a function, leadership of designers and researchers, and a history of shaping product direction at leadership level. Experience influencing strategy rather than only delivering execution is important, as is the ability to build or mature a design function through processes, systems, playbooks, or new ways of working.

Curiosity about AI and how it is changing design and research work is also important, even if the candidate is still exploring the area alongside the team.

Soft Skills

  • Compassionate and proactive leadership that creates a sense of psychological safety.
  • Strong judgment when handling difficult stakeholder situations while maintaining trust.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to explain design value in terms that resonate with leadership, product, and engineering.
  • Comfort with giving and receiving direct feedback in a constructive way.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the hotel or travel space.
  • Exposure to building or scaling teams.
  • Experience creating and maintaining a design system.
  • Background in scale-ups or startups and comfort working in ambiguous environments.

What We Offer

RoomPriceGenie describes its workplace as a startup-style environment with a global mission and a team focused on helping independent hoteliers. The culture is built around transparency, respect, and meaningful impact.

  • Remote-first setup with the flexibility to work from anywhere, plus optional use of coworking spaces and offices in Mannheim, Berlin, or Sydney.
  • Strong alignment around shared goals and collaborative teamwork.
  • Annual global team gatherings for networking, brainstorming, and social connection, along with regular office meetups.
  • Learning and development support, including personal and professional growth opportunities and up to three additional days off each year for development.
  • Five weeks of bonus vacation after five years of service.
  • A paid day off for your birthday.
  • Flexible working hours to support work-life balance.
  • Access to Headspace for meditation and mental wellbeing.
  • Access to BetterHelp for online therapy and counseling support.
