About the Role
We are seeking a Remote Fully Designated Mortgage Underwriter to join our team, where you will critically influence the financing process for new homeowners by evaluating and approving loans. This senior-level position supports Conventional, FHA, and VA loans under investor and agency guidelines primarily via remote work, with occasional on-site meetings as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite Conventional, FHA, and VA mortgage loans per applicable guidelines.
- Use automated underwriting systems to submit files and assess results.
- Decide on loan approvals or pends and present files for loan committee review when necessary.
- Act as a trusted advisor for branch partners, helping resolve complex underwriting scenarios.
- Maintain a rapid workflow with a consistent 24–48-hour turnaround on new and resubmitted loan applications.
- Ensure precise loan documentation and maintenance of file integrity.
- Leverage office tools and systems to optimize underwriting efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
- Active FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA SAR/LAPP underwriting approvals are mandatory.
- At least five years of hands-on mortgage underwriting experience.
- Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and strong time management.
- Proven customer-centric approach and ability to collaborate effectively with lending partners.
- Competency in Microsoft Excel for organizing and analyzing data.
- Experience with Encompass software is a plus but not required.
