With a commitment exceeding 75 years, the firm is recognized for creating and managing built environments vital to local economies and communities. The company values diversity, inclusion, work-life balance, and employee recognition, offering meaningful employment opportunities.

Role Summary

The Remote Camp Gym/Fitness Coordinator will oversee the daily administration of a remote camp gym facility, guaranteeing it remains safe, sanitary, and inviting to all gym members. Duties include member management, equipment upkeep, thorough cleaning, and ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols. Coordination with Lodge and Operations Managers is vital to align gym activities with camp operations.

This role involves fly-in/fly-out travel from Edmonton to the Nunavut project site, which may involve travel delays due to weather. Employment is contingent upon passing a criminal background check, fitness health assessment, and drug and alcohol screenings due to the position's safety-sensitive nature.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome gym users and provide excellent frontline customer service; manage member check-ins and class registrations.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding gym policies and facility usage, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Conduct routine cleaning and disinfecting of equipment, floors, restrooms, and locker rooms, maintaining an organized and hazard-free environment.
  • Handle trash removal and restocking of gym supplies like paper products and soaps.
  • Maintain a visible presence on the gym floor monitoring safety and facility conditions, such as music and lighting.
  • Secure the gym after hours following established protocols.
  • Assist with inventory controls, procurement of supplies, and maintenance of training records for gym personnel.
  • Document incidents, complete inspections, and enforce corrective action plans.
  • Support and help uphold company Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) standards including emergency drills and reporting.

Working Conditions

  • Work primarily occurs on projects in Nunavut with opportunities for remote work when off-site.
  • Must accommodate rotational shift patterns, such as 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off.
  • Adaptability to harsh northern climates, including extreme cold, high winds, and limited daylight during certain seasons.
  • Ability to endure isolation and extended periods away from home with restricted social contact.
  • Accommodations and meals are provided onsite.
  • Travel may also be required to other Canadian project sites.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in recreation, physical education, or a related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in gym coordination, customer service, or facility management.
  • Valid driver's license with ability to undertake required travel.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is desirable or willingness to obtain.
  • Assets include WHMIS and Food Safety certifications.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities calmly under pressure.

Physical Requirements

  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform physical tasks including lifting 40–50 lbs.
  • Comfort working in various environmental conditions including severe weather.
  • Preparedness for fly-in/fly-out travel arrangements and remote work environments.

Additional Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational management software.
  • Deep understanding of health and safety compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and adaptability in diverse teams, including Indigenous and Inuit communities.

Benefits and Schedule

  • Health and dental benefits provided.
  • Complimentary onsite accommodations and meals.
  • Private room including cable and Wi-Fi facilities.
  • Work schedule follows a rotational pattern of 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Starting wage is $22 per hour.
