Role Overview

Crossing Hurdles is hiring a Regulatory Compliance Specialist with a deep accounting background to assist Verita AI in developing their data pipelines. The specialist will leverage expertise to assess AI-generated results for domain accuracy, pinpoint AI reasoning shortfalls, and convert authentic accounting workflows into structured training data for AI improvement. This is a long-term freelance opportunity allowing full remote flexibility, ideal for seasoned accounting and compliance professionals appreciating detailed, precise work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess AI-generated content for correctness, reasoning integrity, and compliance with accounting standards across various workflows.
  • Translate practical accounting procedures into clearly structured tasks feeding AI training models.
  • Identify gaps, unusual cases, and errors in reasoning demanding specialized domain knowledge.
  • Clearly document underlying assumptions, thought processes, and decision-making logic in written form.
  • Offer structured, actionable feedback for engineering and research teams to optimize AI system functionality.

Domain Expertise Areas

  • Month-end and year-end close activities
  • Journal entries, accruals, and reconciliation of accounts
  • Financial reporting and compliance mandates
  • Application and understanding of GAAP and IFRS standards
  • Audit procedures and internal financial controls

Candidate Requirements

  • Between 5 to 8+ years in accounting, auditing, financial reporting, or regulatory compliance roles.
  • Strong expertise in GAAP; knowledge of IFRS is advantageous.
  • Experience using ERP platforms such as NetSuite, SAP, or QuickBooks.
  • CPA certification is preferred, though equivalent qualifications and experience will be considered.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical reasoning and judgments effectively in writing.

Work Arrangement and Expectations

  • All tasks are performed asynchronously through Slack and internal platforms.
  • Minimal meetings and no fixed schedules, with an expectation for regular weekly involvement.
  • A minimum engagement of 10 hours weekly, with 15-20+ hours preferred.
  • Self-management and consistent delivery without close supervision are essential.

Compensation Details

  • Hourly rate ranges from 100 to 125 USD based on experience.
  • Payments occur biweekly via Deel.
  • Engagement is classified as a long-term freelance contract.
  • Working hours are monitored through Insightful.
  • High-performing individuals might be offered retainer contracts in the future.
