Role Overview

The Registered Nurse will deliver nursing services within specified geographical areas and collaborate closely with the West Cork Child Development Service. Acting as a keyworker, this role involves primary responsibility for the medical care of service users, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care according to professional and ethical standards based on best practice.

Work Details

This is a permanent part-time position requiring approximately 7.5 hours per week, including 10 weekends annually. Shift allowances include waking night, Sunday premium, and Saturday allowances. The nurse will mostly provide community-based home nursing care for children with complex needs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Uphold nursing practice conforming to the Code of Professional Conduct by the Nursing Board and clinical guidelines.
• Adhere to relevant policies, protocols, legislative requirements, and organizational guidelines.
• Maintain competence within scope of practice through ongoing professional development.
• Ensure professional accountability, confidentiality, and respect for clients' dignity and privacy.
• Provide safe and effective nursing care, managing individual caseloads and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Participate in case conferences, clinical meetings, and coordinate care planning and delivery.
• Promote health, social wellbeing, and community integration for service users.
• Observe infection control standards and contribute to associated policy development.
• Manage and mitigate health and safety risks, complying with statutory requirements and organizational policies.
• Engage in training, induction, and mentoring of junior staff and students.
• Keep detailed records and submit necessary reports in line with confidentiality and data protection standards.
• Support innovation, clinical audit, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in community needs assessments and health promotion activities.

Eligibility and Requirements

• Must be registered or eligible for registration with An Bord Altranais in the relevant division, including nurses trained in EU member states under Directive 2006/100/EC.
• Possess a full driving license due to role travel requirements.
• Be in good health and have the capability for consistent service delivery.
• Demonstrate professionalism, clinical excellence, decision-making based on evidence-based practice, and a strong commitment to continuous development.
• Show leadership, team management, and effective communication skills including IT proficiency relevant to the role.
• Have the ability to empathize, build relationships, and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Preferably hold qualifications related to disability studies, communication techniques, or support service delivery.
• Awareness of primary care strategies, relevant health policies, and legislative frameworks such as HIQA is advantageous.

Salary

The salary ranges from €37,060 to €54,112 per annum (full-time equivalent), depending on experience.
