Job description
Position Overview
We are inviting applications for the role of Regional Patient Pathway Co-ordinator within the Regional Cataract Service. This role serves the South East Wales Region, covering Aneurin Bevan, Cardiff and Vale, and Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Boards. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the delivery of transformation plans for Ophthalmology across these regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and clerical support to the Regional Ophthalmology service within the Surgical Division.
- Manage inpatient waiting lists and oversee the daily operation of inpatient scheduling services.
- Assist management teams and clinicians with service delivery and performance improvements, focusing on enhancing patient experience and reducing waiting times.
- Ensure outpatient and inpatient capacity is effectively utilized to meet access targets.
- Book outpatient appointments and day-case treatments, handle GP and patient inquiries, and manage appointment scheduling using Regional systems and Partial Booking processes.
- Maintain communication through incoming and outgoing calls, and answer general queries aligned with organizational policies.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Good general education background.
- Proficient knowledge of administrative procedures and systems, gained through experience or vocational training equivalent to Level 3.
- Strong keyboard and computer skills; possession of ECDL or similar qualifications is advantageous.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and patients alike.
- Display empathy when engaging with patients regarding their treatment and procedures.
- Possess an approachable and enthusiastic demeanor.
- Previous NHS experience, notably familiarity with ORMIS, RTT systems, or similar administrative competencies, is essential.
- Compliance with health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures, plus the ability to identify risks and maintain safety within work activities.
- Desirable skills include Welsh language proficiency (levels 1 to 5 across understanding, speaking, reading, and writing), knowledge of NHS initiatives such as patient choice and ORMIS, and active participation in continuous learning.
