The role is focused on strengthening finance strategy, governance, and operational performance across a complex international portfolio.
You will provide direction to regional finance teams, reinforce financial controls and compliance, and help ensure resources are managed effectively. The position blends high-level financial leadership with hands-on support for multi-country operations, donor-funded programs, and strategic initiatives.
Working closely with senior leaders, finance professionals, and operational teams, you will help improve decision-making through reliable financial analysis and reporting. The role also includes building stronger finance functions, developing team capability, and driving ongoing improvements in a dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities
- Set the direction for regional financial management and ensure alignment with organizational policies, internal procedures, and donor obligations.
- Work with finance leaders and regional stakeholders to improve financial practices, streamline operations, and support program delivery.
- Track regional financial performance, spot risks and opportunities, and create mitigation plans that support stronger financial health.
- Oversee accounting activity across the region, maintaining effective controls, accurate reporting, timely reconciliations, and compliance with financial standards.
- Support country teams with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and analysis to improve resource allocation and program impact.
- Review audits, financial reports, and compliance findings, and help implement corrective actions and continuous improvement measures.
- Advise on donor regulations, financial policies, and compliance matters, especially in complex international funding settings.
- Contribute to proposal development, budget review, cost analysis, and the financial side of business development work.
- Provide senior leadership with financial insight, risk assessment, and practical recommendations for strategic decisions.
- Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop regional finance team members to improve capability and performance.
- Encourage knowledge sharing, training, and capacity building across finance and operational teams.
- Support rollout of new finance processes, systems, and strategic initiatives across the region.
- Travel periodically to country offices and field locations to provide oversight, support, and capability building.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree, CPA, or similar professional certification is an advantage.
- At least 10 years of progressive international finance management experience, ideally in international development, humanitarian, or nonprofit settings.
- Background in managing multi-country financial operations, compliance systems, and donor-funded projects.
- Strong working knowledge of financial controls, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
- Experience with major donor rules, including US Government and European Union funding requirements.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop finance teams across different geographies and cultures.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.
- Comfort working in complex, fast-moving, and evolving environments, including emergency or field-based contexts.
- Ability to interpret complex financial data and explain insights clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Well-developed organizational skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory; other regional languages are a strong advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, up to 25% of the time.
Benefits
- Fully remote working arrangement with flexibility to operate from locations aligned to regional time zones.
- Opportunity to lead finance strategy and operations across a varied international portfolio.
- Chance to contribute to programs and initiatives with meaningful global impact.
- Access to ongoing learning, development, and capacity-building opportunities.
- Collaborative environment with international finance, operations, and leadership teams.
