Position Overview

The Regional Director of Operations will lead efforts to enhance operational excellence within a complex transportation network by standardizing procedures, improving scalability, and enforcing performance discipline. This role ensures that operational execution aligns seamlessly with customer expectations, service obligations, and profitability goals while advancing the company's strategic growth plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive network-wide operational excellence by continuously optimizing processes, procedures, and service quality standards across the region.
  • Implement standard operating procedures and robust performance management frameworks to ensure accountability and consistency.
  • Identify operational risks promptly and execute corrective strategies that enhance efficiency, reliability, and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Provide leadership and support to operational and engineering teams, fostering collaboration and high performance.
  • Utilize performance analytics to review operational data regularly, uncover trends, and develop actionable insights to address gaps and improve results.
  • Create and maintain a balanced scorecard to track key operational and financial metrics for executive-level reporting.
  • Oversee budget management and operational efficiency metrics to ensure alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Enhance service consistency by reviewing performance against industry benchmarks and adjusting network operations accordingly.
  • Optimize transit routes and resource utilization by analyzing freight flow and network capacity to improve speed and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives using Six Sigma and other methodologies to boost productivity, quality, and cost management.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop operational teams to build organizational capabilities and accountability culture.

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least 10 years of progressive responsibility in operations and engineering within transportation, logistics, distribution, or supply chain sectors.
  • Proven leadership with experience managing operations and engineering personnel or cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and financial skills including budgeting, forecasting, and operational performance assessment.
  • Expertise in transportation operations, network design, and capacity planning in multi-site environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with experience creating executive dashboards and balanced scorecards.
  • Experience with enterprise operational systems, preferably AS/400, and familiarity with statistical analyses and process control techniques.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to influence diverse stakeholders from executives to operational staff.
  • Six Sigma certification or demonstrated application of Six Sigma techniques preferred.
  • Industry knowledge of less-than-truckload (LTL), freight, or logistics operations is an advantage.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • The role involves primarily administrative duties with light physical activity, including sitting, standing, walking, handling items, and extended vision capabilities.
  • The work setting includes a well-lit indoor office with occasional exposure to moderate noise levels from dock operations involving propane forklifts and freight movement.
  • Employees may experience fluctuating temperatures, some outdoor exposure, wet or humid conditions, and must be able to adjust to varied environments while visiting operational sites.
  • Travel requirements include approximately 50% overnight travel via land or air within the Central Region.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary ranging between $150,000 and $180,000 annually.
  • Hybrid work arrangement within the Central Region based in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
